Sim phones or the gsm phones; are considered as one of the most popular standards of cell phones in the world. The acronym GSM stands for global system of mobile communications and on a calculated estimate; about 90% of the world population, across the 215 countries; consumes such standard for their cell phones. Early at the end of the 20th century, the phones were confined to a specific work area either home or any office location but the advancements of technology has rendered cell phones introducing the gsm type standard in them. A Gsm phone is a standardized digital sort of phone through which the data is communicated through a wireless terminal. Such type of phones uses combination of the time and the frequency division of multiple accesses. A Gsm standard phone is compatible to have sim installed in it where as the other standards like cdma, tdma, amps do not use sim cards, but instead the entire information is programmed into the phone directly. But the certain advancements in cdma phones manufactured in china and latin America, for their cdma type phones use a special type of similar looking card called the T-uim.

Technically speaking this process is done via SIM card. The acronym Sim stands for subscriber identity module. Sim card is a chip, and is resided under the battery of your gsm or sim based cell phones and proactively stores data such as the network provider against that sim card, your telephonic contacts, and the tariffs. The basic purpose of the SIM card is to store the entire data into it which associates a specific identity to the specific user who is entitled to be subscribed to it. This sim card is easily transferable from one phone to another by removing and re installing in any other GSM type phones and the new phone is enabled to be used against the same account with the same existing number. Some of the iden phones, besides the Gsm phones are also compatible to SIM cards. As far as the operating systems are concerned, the operating systems of sim come in two types where one is native and the other is known as java card. Native type is classified due to its vendor software and propriety where as java type is distinguished because of being the subset of java language targeted at the embedded services.

The advancement in the pertinent technology has rendered a new technique of dual sim. Dual sim acts and is operated the same as being a single sim with in a single phone but instead there is a switch button to swipe amongst the sims. And the remaining functionalities are the same
